ALEXANDER D. BAUMGARTEN

Alexander D. Baumgarten advises both American and foreign clients on a wide range of public-affairs issues in the fields of government relations, communications, corporate governance and strategy, and investor relations.  His areas of expertise include:

​

  • The federal contracting and grants process: Writing, shepherding, and successfully implementing government grant and contract proposals;

  • Executive communication: Speechwriting, media training and placement, and successful public branding of the voices of CEOs and other senior organizational leaders.

  • Organizational and project management: Human resources, CEO searches and executive coaching, branding, crisis communications, and regulatory compliance; 

  • The federal appropriations process: Leveraging and achieving client goals for the U.S. budget, particularly in the areas of foreign-assistance, homeland-security, and the defense; 

  • Foreign affairs and transnational organizational operation: Advising clients on the successful navigation of the internal and external dynamics of operating across national borders, with particular experience and expertise on issues in the Middle East, Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa.

 

Mr. Baumgarten's recent successes include building the communications and digital roll-out of a nonprofit educational startup working in South Africa, Asia, Israel, and the Caribbean; advising democratic-reform efforts in the Republic of Zimbabwe; leading the successful restructuring of a prominent global faith-based organization's communication operation; directing the CEO search of a medium-size advocacy organization coming into maturity; and spearheading a high-level delegation of politically diverse thought leaders traveling to the Middle East.

 

Prior to founding the Baumgarten Group in 2016, Mr. Baumgarten's professional experience included serving as director of communications and government relations for the Episcopal Church in the United States of America; as legislative-affairs manager for NARAL Pro-Choice America; and in the office of Senator J. James Exon (D-NE). He has served on multiple charitable and non-profit Boards of Directors, and is a member of the Professional Speechwriters Association.  He is a native Nebraskan and practicing Catholic, and lives in Virginia with his wife and two young sons.  He can be reached at abaumgarten@commonwealthpublicsector.org.
