Alexander D. Baumgarten advises clients on a wide range of public-affairs issues in the fields of public-sector contracting, government relations, communications strategy, and corporate governance, including shareholder relations. His areas of expertise include:

Federal, state, and local contracts and grants: Project management of public-sector partnerships from the RFP stage to closeout.

Executive communication: Speechwriting, media training and placement, and successful public branding of the voices of CEOs and other senior organizational leaders.

Legislative and regulatory strategy: Government relations services on behalf of client goals, including expertise in the federal appropriations process, coalition building, relationship management, and administrative rule-making.

High-level corporate strategy: C-Suite advisement in Board relations, CEO searches, reputational management, and shareholder engagement (especially in corporate social responsibility).

Foreign affairs and transnational business issues: Dynamic navigation of cross-border business challenges, with particular experience and expertise on issues in the Middle East, Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa.
Mr. Baumgarten's recent successes include helping a client secure one of the largest State Department humanitarian contracts in U.S. history; building the communications and digital roll-out of a nonprofit educational startup working in South Africa, Asia, Israel, and the Caribbean; advising democratic-reform efforts in the Republic of Zimbabwe; leading the successful restructuring of a prominent global faith-based organization's communication operation; directing the CEO search of a medium-size advocacy organization coming into maturity; and spearheading a high-level delegation of politically diverse thought leaders traveling to the Middle East.
Prior to joining Commonwealth Public Sector Strategies, Mr. Baumgarten's professional experience included serving as director of communications and government relations for the Episcopal Church in the United States of America; as legislative representative for non-profit organizations in Washington, DC; and in legislative affairs n the United States Senate. He has served on multiple charitable and non-profit Boards of Directors, and is a member of the Professional Speechwriters Association.
